Maxwell Robotics GmbH was founded in 2026 by robotics engineers from the Technical University of Munich who were already working on robotics projects together. We kept seeing the same pattern across startups and enterprises alike: strong ideas that never made it past a slide deck, because nobody owned the path from concept to a working system.
So we built that path ourselves. We've built automated medical devices, integrated voice AI onto humanoid platforms, and given quadruped robots the autonomy to navigate on their own. It's hardware, software, and AI, engineered end-to-end, never handed off in pieces.
Why Robotics, Why Now?
Germany is already one of the most automated economies in the world. According to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR, World Robotics 2025), around 278,900 industrial robots were in operation in German factories in 2024, about 40% of all industrial robots in the EU and more than in any other member state. With 449 robots per 10,000 manufacturing employees, Germany has one of the highest robot densities in the world.
And the next wave is still ahead. After a weak 2025, the IFR reports that a majority of experts expect stronger growth in the German robotics industry again by 2027 and 2028 at the latest. Robots that are easier to program and lower-cost hardware are putting automation within reach of small and mid-sized manufacturers, not just large plants.
At the same time, the Mittelstand is under real pressure. According to the DIHK Skilled Labour Report 2025/2026, a survey of almost 22,000 companies, more than 40% of small and mid-sized firms struggle to fill vacancies, and in the automatica Trend Index 2025 (Messe München), three out of four employees in Germany see robotics as an answer to the skills shortage. In the DIHK's early-summer 2026 business survey, energy and raw-material prices (70%) and economic-policy conditions (58%, with bureaucracy the most-cited issue) top the list of business risks.
